Caleb coker Fort - Managing Risk while Investing

Caleb Coker Fort believes “Being a professional investor is about managing downside risk. Everything else is just the game of chance.” Caleb Coker Fort has helped number of people in South Carolina region to buy investment properties. Here he is sharing tips to managing risks while investing:

There is always a certain amount of risk when you invest. But professional investing is about minimizing that risk. “What we do has to do with statistical analysis; it has to do with calculating variables; looking at trends.”

People who are just getting into the markets, he says, should consult with an investment professional before they ever invest a dime. “The first thing they need to do is go talk to a Registered Investment Advisor. They need to go find a fiduciary; someone that’s especially a fee-only investment advisor; someone that will be their advocate, that will help them navigate these waters, first and foremost.”

Consulting with a professional first is only common sense. “It’s like plumbing,” Caleb Coker Fort says. “If there’s – if your sink is broken, if I don’t know anything about plumbing, I’m going to go get a wrench – I’m going to make things worse than they already are. Whereas, in everywhere else in your life, if there’s a problem, you get a professional. If your hand is cut you go to an emergency room and ask a doctor. If you need to change your oil you go to a mechanic. The most important thing in your life, your money, you’re just going to go after it yourself? And act like you know what you’re doing?”
